GIRLS’ SUMMIT 2018 PROGRAMME REPORT
Date : 16 – 19 September 2018
Venue : Kalumpang
Resort Training Centre,
Hulu Selangor, Selangor
Penang sent a group of
eight girl guides rangers to attend this programme. All of them are from High
School Bukit Mertajam; Jasmine Teoh, Christina Lee, Lee Wan Ying, Wong Yee
Tien, Tan Yue Min, Harchana Ramesh, Darshinya Dorairam and Chriselda Anne
Aloysius.Together with two leaders; Madam Siti Hajar Abdullah and Madam Oh Saw
Loon, the ten of us took a train to Tanjong Malim. From the train station, we
took three taxis to the resort.
After registration,
everyone got down to business. There were workshops on child marriages, which
is currently fervently debated. On top of that, there was also a talk on the
possible path taken after completing school. It was then time for the girls to
wring every drop of their creativity juice when they had to sew pouches for
their forks and spoons. The girls were given the night slot to prepare for the
Summit Night.
On the third day, the girls
went for some rather strenuous physical exercises on top of the morning
workout. First, they went hiking up the slippery terrain as it rained the night
before.
After lunch, they went
river crossing, an experience of a lifetime for some of the girls as they had
never hiked upstream before!
It was the highlight of the
summit after dinner whereby the girls performed traditional dances. Some
guiders showcased their talent when they performed with their girls as well.
Everything had to come to
an end. It was with sadness when the girls had to part ways after being
together for four days. However, the girls left with memories that would last
for a long time.
Panting
and huffing throughout the physical activities.
